BestSpace

Towards the end of my college years, many of my friends were moving into new spaces. I knew I was going to find myself in the same position soon, and I created a resource that could help all of us.

This website features 12 articles on different areas of interior design and general apartment living. I wrote it with young adults in mind, with many of the articles centered around basic design principles and how to create beautiful spaces without spending money.

As I was developing BestSpace, I realized I wanted it to be more than just a resource, but also a source of inspiration. So I came up with an overall design theme-- art on a wall. Why? Because one of the biggest challenges when moving into a new space is what to do with a blank wall.

Home Page

The home page opens with images of empty rooms and the line ‘Moving somewhere new doesn’t have to be scary’, but as the user scrolls down, the images are more lively and full. As the user reaches the bottom there’s a point of discovery in which they realize the images are frames on a wall.

Scrolling

When scrolling down an article, the user notices images peeking from the edges, clicking the arrow reveals these images are part of adjacent articles.

An outside view gives a better look into how each of these articles are interconnected. This is a simulation view of all the articles and not visible to the user.

Navigation Menu

The button for the navigation menu recalls the forms of the home page, and the forms in the navigation menu itself replicate these forms in a stylized way, creating an experience that is both familiar and surprising.
